Applications are invited for 1 Post-doctoral position to be involved in an industrial project dealing with the "Design and development of hydrophobic multifunctional polyurethane foams".

We are looking for a motivated scientist with novel and creative ideas, focused and determined. The position will focus on the development of functional composite polyurethane foams, specifically with superhydrophobic and flame retardant properties. The candidate will be able to organize and perform the experimental work, communicate with the company, and write regular reports. In the first months of the project, the candidate should spend a period in the company's premises in order to gain knowhow and experience on the preparation of the foams.

The applicants must have:

  • PhD in one of the following areas: Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences, Polymer Science.
  • Strong experience in the area of polyurethane foams.
  • Strong experience in the area of polymer composites.
  • Excellent track record of research publications.

Highly appreciated will be:

  • Experience in flame retardant materials.
  • Experience in thermomechanical characterization of polymeric composites
  • Experience in surface science
  • Experience in microscopy, spectroscopy and surface chemistry characterization techniques

The research activity will take place in the Smart Materials Group of Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) based in Genoa, Italy. The research of the Smart Materials group deals with the development of new composite materials by combining various synthetic or natural polymers with micro or nanofillers or organic molecules. The main research lines of the Smart Materials Group are Green and Sustainable composites, Graphene nanocomposites, Smart composite materials for sensing, Surface engineering and adhesion, Multifunctional polymeric foams and aerogels, Smart Fabrics and Paper, Materials for Safe Environment, Food packaging, Materials for Regenerative Medicine. Close collaborations exist with industry, university departments and other research centers in Italy and abroad.
